Only educational institutions can provide students with this knowledge. So, our esteemed Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Islam Ullah Khan, established the UMW human Rights Society at the University of Mianwali. UMW human Rights Society facilitating and strengthening civil society groups and networks for promoting trust and collaboration among citizens to mobilize public pressure for basic human rights and women’s empowerment in Mianwali and provide expertise’s on issues on gender empowerment, addressing violence against women and girls and processes of attitudinal change.
Why human rights are important?
Values of tolerance, equality and respect can help reduce friction within society. Putting human rights ideas into practice can helps us create the kind of society we want to live in. In recent decades, there has been a tremendous growth in how we think about and apply human rights ideas. This has had many positive results knowledge about human rights can empower individuals and offer solutions for specific problems. Human rights are an important part of how people interact with others at all levels in society – in the family, the community, schools, the workplace, in politics and in international relations. It is vital therefore that people everywhere should strive to understand what human rights are. When people better understand human rights, it is easier for them to promote justice and the wellbeing of society.
OBJECTIVES
1.Advocacy and lobbying for appropriate legislation to address gender based discrimination and violence, raising awareness and building capacities (across duty bearers and right holders) around women’s human rights
2.Combating gender inequalities through girls’ education University level. Providing direct support to women survivors of gender based violence (GBV)
3.Promoting peace and tolerance through the revival of cultural activities and by engaging young people both male and female. Creating widespread awareness and commitment for a just, democratic, and caring society in Mianwali.
4.To enable women to acquire great access to knowledge, resources, and institutions. To influence attitudes and behavior for a social environment responsive to women’s concerns and people-centered issues;

Dr. Tariq Usman is PhD in English Literature. Since graduating from Sargodha University in first-class first (Gold Medalist) in his MA, he has been serving in different capacities at several universities. He started his teaching career at The University of Faisalabad in 2013, Later, he joined University of Sargodha, Lahore Campus and served there as a lecturer for a period of more than four years. He joined Lahore Garrison University as an Assistant Professor of English in 2018. However, in December 2018 he joined University of Sargodha sub-campus Mianwali. Currently, he is serving as a lecturer and Incharge at the English department of University of Mianwali. He is also an MPhil external examiner at Lahore Garrison University. Moreover, he has served as an adjunct faculty member at Minhaj University Lahore, Ripha International University Lahore and The University of the Punjab, Lahore. He is the author of one comprehensive book titled Pakistani Fiction: a Critical Survey published in 2020. Moreover, he has presented his research papers at several national and international conferences. His areas of expertise are Poetry and Poetics, Dramaturgy and Screen Literature.
