Objectives of Program:
Microbiology is a broad discipline of high relevance and scope having both basic and applied aspects. Microbiology has been considered as an important discipline of science, which has Practical implications in various aspects of human life like Medicine, Agriculture, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Twenty first century is considered to be the period of Microbiology and Biotechnology. Basic and Industrial research all over the world give prime importance to this discipline. The program provides students with the opportunity to study academically challenging and vocationally relevant subjects gaining exposure to the demands of scientific investigation. It emphasizes lab-based practical classes. As a result, students can experience many disciplines in which new technologies are making important contributions.
Because of the importance of the subject and its applicability, the objective of the Department of Microbiology is to produce skilled graduates in the discipline of Microbiology and to expand their knowledge of this field through research so that they can choose both research or academics as potential carrier. The main goal of the Department is to produce specifically trained graduates and initiate teaching and research in Microbiogy leading to award of BS Microbiology and M.Phil, and Ph.D. Degrees.

Mission Statement:

Background:
The Department of Botany and Zoology are running since September 2013 at University of Mianwali. Large number of students are willing to get admission in this emerging field of microbiology as it is growing field in research especially in the era of science and technology worldwide. The students of both Botany, zoology and other fields will be able to enhance their research capabilities in Agricultural, industrial, environmental and medical microbiology
Laminar flows hood, Digital Laboratory incubators, water baths, Automated vertical Autoclave, Micropipettes, high speed Centrifuge machines, Orbital shakers, Benchtop PH meter, Magnetic Stirrer with hot Plate, Water Distillation Plant, Electrical Precision Balance, Stereo microscopes and microscope with digital camera as well as other basic laboratory instruments. Moreover, we have wide range of chemicals and glassware required for basic practical work of all the subjects taught in the department. Moreover, Collaborations have been done with the department of chemistry to use their high-tech research laboratories for research purposes.
Microbiology students can choose industrial, academic or research career. Most of the modern Biological researches directly or indirectly need expertise in Microbiological methods so they can also choose their further studies in the area of Medical Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Immunology, Clinical Virology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Genetic Engineering, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics. Moreover, there are number of other departments including Forensic Centres, Molecular Research Centres, biotechnological research institutes where these graduates can have promising scope of serving.
BS Microbiology
Duration:
The duration required to complete this degree is 4 years.
Semesters:
Students are required to pass 8 semesters for the completion of this degree.
Credit Hours:
Students must complete 132 credit hours for this degree.
Eligibility:
At least 45% marks in Intermediate with Biology as an elective subject or Equivalent qualification. English compulsory of 200 is mandatory for candidates from FATA.
