DEPARTMENT OF URDU

INTRODUCTION

The establishment of linguistic departments in universities is the most important need of the day so that the students can acquire proficiency in national & foreign languages .Living nations has their own language and literature because literature preserves history, culture, values and traditions. All of these characteristics contribute towards making nation and society self-respecting and honorable. This department has its roll in making the students good human beings fully aware of their own culture, values, and tradition. Mianwali is one of the most important geographical city of Punjab. The department of Urdu was established in 2013. Classes of Master of Arts in Urdu were started in the same year. M. Phil Urdu degree program was started in 2015. About 124 MA students from Urdu department have completed the degree & one session of M. Phil had completed the degree. The four year degree program of BS Urdu was started in 2017. The Urdu department will be able to achieve a prominent position in domestic & foreign universities soon.

VISION

Urdu Majlis society stands firm on the foundation to promote and restore the lost remnants of literary essence in their purest form, and to covey them to the interested masses .with the vision to revive the art of reading with passion, the society aims.

  • To encourage creativity through imagination.
  • To augment the students writing and linguistic skills.
  • To scrutinize the delicate things of various facts of literature.

Urdu Majlis society intends to sports an appreciation of reading, involvement in engaging discussions, thoughtful considerations of literature and creative writing ,as activities which have valuable effects on the society, Urdu Majlis is devoted to  promoting effective communication skills among the students, the society is poised to enable abilities with cutting edges to develop and polish there literary skills. The society is ambitious to inspire the students to develop a taste for literature and add the same time realize the direction of expanding their horizon of spoken and written language .includes a variety of activities aimed at fostering up the confidence and grooming the aptitudes of students in confronting various interactive challenges and competitions additionally, overlooking the literary aspect ,the society intends to provide a common ground to from new acquaintances, foster confidence, exchange views, and to encourage of friendly banter to endorse the beauty of different ideas .

OBJECTIVES

To provide a platform through multiple events, talks ,sessions ,and discussions were the society can revamp the lost interest in literature. Aspire to assist the young writers by providing them an informal space such as zauq .

  • Have fun along with work.

As gateways to knowledge and culture, library play a fundamental in university .the resources and services they offer create opportunities for learning, support   literacy and education and help shape the new ideas and perspectives that are central to a creative and innovative society. In the main library of UMW ,a large number of books related to Urdu literature are available which can be taken by not only students of  Department of Urdu but students of other Departments can also take benefit of these books.

The duration required to complete this degree is 4 years.

Semesters
Students are required to pass 8 semesters for the completion of this degree.

Students must complete 142 credit hours for this degree.
